Men of the Union! Your country needs you! will you fill the ranks? join today!
Put an end to the rebellion! Enlisting is the first step. Firstly, you might want to have a read about what the 8th Ohio is and what we do.
Who we are:
The 8th Ohio Company B is a historical Company for War of Rights. The 8th Ohio tries to provide a fun and exciting community whilst still upholding military and historical accuracy by the use of ranks, chain of command and providing period correct training to our members, teaching the necessary skills a soldier of the Union Army would need to survive combat during the Civil War.
How long will it take to join?
To join the 8th, you will have to go through the standard recruiting procedure. First off, after completing your enlistment papers you will need to wait while your application is reviewed. Once accepted you will be given the rank of Recruit. You will stay as a recruit until completion of Basic Combat Training. After completion you will be promoted to Private and will be a full member of the 8th.
What is Basic Combat Training?
Everyone who enters the 8th is trained to use a rifle, bayonet and the basic tactics needed for combat. This means that Basic Combat Training will train and test your skills, while also teaching you combat tactics and the workings of the 8th such as chain of command and structure.
How do ranks work?
Ranks allow for a system called "chain of command". This allows for power and responsibilities to be dispersed among members. The lowest of the ranks is Recruit. Once promoted to Private you will enter the Enlisted. Above Enlisted are Non-Commissioned Officers. NCOs are made up of Corporals, Sergeants and the First Sergeant. Finally, the top brass known as the Commissioned Officers. Commissioned Officers are the top of the leadership and are responsible for the planning and leading of troops on a larger scale. These ranks include 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Lieutenant and Captain. Because of these ranks, chain of command flows easily, by sifting out problems before reaching the top. This allows for a smoother operation of the unit, rather than congested amounts of problems flooding the top brass.
